Just when things were getting boring...
07.25.06 (8:18 am)   [edit]

Yesterday, I was evaluating my life and where things were at, and especially after talking with a friend who currently has tons of drama going on, I thought: "My life is pretty calm right now.  Nothing's really going on."  The housing situation seems fine, my job seems rather secure, I am over any sort of crush or guy-thing, none of my friends have huge issues with me to my knowledge... that gives you an idea.  So, I'm talking with my in-the-midst-of-drama friend when another friend calls.  I normally let voicemail pick it up, but when she called two more times successively, I knew something was up.  She's setting me up on a blind date (again).  I retraced the first time this happened, which was 6 months ago.  It was a blast.  There was a connection there, but not on a romantic level.  I think he may have ended up liking Amber- either way, if we ever have a ton of people over, he may be invited.  That date (I hesitate to call it that) was the same weekend as my first time at The Church in Bethesda.  It's crazy to think of all that has happened since.  In some ways, it's hard to believe I've only been there 6 months, but in others, I totally get it, because there is so much more to learn about everyone, etc.

So yeah, I'm going on another blind date.  It seems foreign to me- as in what types of things do I normally want to know about a person, etc.  I feel no pressure, though.  How much can there be when there's no commitment?  It's a chance to get to know someone.  Does anyone have some good questions/things to find out?  (a conversation shouldn't be too hard, but I know there are very interesting topics out there) ALSO: I'd love to hear blind-date or just any type of dating stories!!  Please share!!!  I promise to share some of my own, too.

I always like to ask what was the funniest thing that ever happened to you or some crazy event from childhood. I liked to ask about their family to get a clue about how they value a relationship.

Well -- my Dad grew up in the city as well as my Mom with no yard. They bought their first house in the burbs with a large yard. My Dad always wanted to grow a vegetable garden so he had a rather large plot of land and grew his vegetables. He really knew nothing about growing even grass.

My Mom always wanted us to play outside during summer vacation while she stayed in the house. Sometimes we would get hungry so we would just sneak to my Dad's garden while he was at work and pick off the veggies, wash them with the outside faucet and eat them raw. YUM!

My Dad thought we had wild animals living in the woods that were raiding and eating his veggies but we never told him it was us.

When we ate the whole garden up, that was it, we then had to starve for hours till Mom rang the dinner bell (like the Town Crier's bell) then fed us.

Recalling this now, I am laughing. I will have to tell my brother when I talk with him.

That is hilarious! Fresh vegetables sure are tasty, though. We used to have a mutt (shepherd/collie) that would pull carrots up and eat them.
I can't think of any especially funny childhood stories, but my dad ran for Sheriff, and we all got together and spray-painted signs that kind of looked like monopoly cards- bright orange on top, with for Sheriff below, and the name of the city/town in the orange part. It was fun campaigning.

I can remember pulling up the carrots when they were so small and pitiful looking but I was hungry.
Most dogs do like to eat carrots according to my Vet.

I like the political monopoly cards.
