a glimpse of changing seasons

The snow collects the good with the bad, as can be seen when it melts. This blog is my snow, holding onto my experiences.

a glimpse of changing seasons
03.29.05 (9:51 pm)   [edit]

This first one is my summer painting, that I finished last month (or was it only a few weeks ago?!).  It was inspired by the one below, which I got at a junk shop in South Dakota.  I hope that as I work on the two other seasons, they will look more like impressions of the wild than cartoons.  Sadly, there are not seasons here in California like there are anywhere else in the world, or at least the Midwest.  While it has been in the 60s both here and in the dear Midwest, that marks no changes here.  No melting snow or rain, no new buds or fresh feeling.  Sure, there are blooming flowers, but also dead trees- it seems as if nothing truly gets a fresh start.  Aaron helped me get the 'blooming' feeling by dragging me out while he's super-busy, to stop and smell the roses-literally.  We also drove along a water reservoir.  Some neighborhoods resemble South Dakota, while others have enough greenery (aka not too many palm trees, and instead overgrown plants and trees)- which raised my spirits a bit.  We also petted a horse, who was fenced into someone's front yard, as more of a decoration than anything else.  Sorry, no pics of that.  Here's winter instead:

E - I really like your painting. I like that the closest tree goes off the page, that kind of leads your eyes into the painting. I also like your shading - the light is poking through the windows and shining into the forest from afar. I also like the colors in the sunset (or maybe sunrise? But I think its a sunset probably.) They are blocks of thick, rich color that lead intot the deep blue that matches the water below. That is a great way to pull a painting together - to put the same basic colors at the top and bottom. I like it! I don't think it looks unrealistic - to me, it looks fresh and appealing. Today it rained, which I love the rain normally and I was happy that I went rollerblading yesterday when it was 50 degrees, but today it seemed to make me feel sad. Boo, rain without lightening and thunder is kind of depressing :( But your picture makes me happy :) Yay

Err, by "windows" I think I meant limbs. Kind of a weird mix-up.

Thanks, Hope! You're involvement and depth w/ my painting means a lot, because I admire your own work- it's cool to hear what stood out to you. I'm glad you were able to roller blade the other day- and I agree about 'silent' rain being rather depressing. When it rains here, it hardly thunders, and I can't remember seeing any lightning at all! Rain is a nice change of pace, but it's not as invigorating when it's unaccompanied.

It rained here today, too, and there was plenty of thunder and lightning! It really picked up my spirits. The first thunderstorm of the season! And since I live only a few feet away from Hope, I'm not sure what she meant by saying it was just rain. There were plenty of special effects!

Erin, I didn't know you paint! That's really cool. I have to agree that it looks a bit cartoonish, but is that always bad? It can be refreshing to not always be so true to life!

I only heard one clap of thunder yesterday. Maybe my hearing is going.

I really like the painting you found in a junk shop. Very cool impressionism in the trees.

Hey, I didn't know you were a painter. That's neat!

Thanks. Another example of a visual-tendency in creativity?
